I am pleased to be exhibiting in the lovely little Studio 50 Gallery very close to home, in Kommetjie. Studio 50 is the brainchild of fellow artist Janet Ormond, who works with reclaimed beach plastic. Janet has developed a beautifully curated space at Imhoff Farm, where she exhibits small cohesive shows, in an intimate and accessible setting. If you haven't been to Imhoff Farm recently, make a turn and you'll be surprised. Make sure you stop in at Studio 50 where I am exhibiting a selection of natural marked and stitched work, crossing over to woodcut, all on very interesting surfaces, playing between paper and textile.
A little more about the exhibition:
Unearthed brings together four artists whose practices are rooted in material exploration, process, and a shared respect for the earth we call home. Working across painting, printmaking and textiles, wood, and reclaimed ocean plastic, Shaune Rogatschnig, Kristen McClarty, Rodney Band, and Janet Ormond engage in acts of uncovering, revealing form, memory, meaning, and material through their distinct approaches.
Though varied in medium and method, the works are connected by a shared sensitivity to landscape, natural rhythms, and the quiet power of transformation. Creativity is unearthed through intuition, labour, and care, arising from an attentive dialogue with materials that either come from or are inspired by the natural world.
Together, the exhibition reflects on our relationship with nature as both source and responsibility.
