I am excited to be exhibiting in Pretty Serious, running for most of August in Cape Town. 

"Hosted in collaboration with Art School Africa, Pretty Serious explores the playful, performative, excessive, tender, ridiculous, stylish, emotional, and joyful dimensions of femininity. The unapologetic reclamation of being “just a girl” is itself a delicate art of resistance – a light feminine touch applied to the long, heavy discourse on womanhood.
The exhibition opens up space for blissful girlhood to roam free and encourages tapping into the many, unfiltered parts of the feminine experience. Here, beauty, joy and playfulness can be offered as salve for indoctrinated feminine shame – or hand a bedazzled molotov cocktail of resistance to the inner girlchild in all of us. Revelling in adornment, camp, vulnerability, and the small absurdities can unlock the raw, corporeal pleasure that gets systematically trained out of girls from girlhood. It is a reminder that limitless joy, tenderness and play can be Pretty Serious.

Invited artists engage with femininity as a space of imagination, contradiction, experimentation, and fun. Exploring femininity as an act of rebellious care, asking what it means to take beauty seriously? To find power in softness? To romanticise the everyday,
embrace excess, or perform femininity on your own terms? Pretty Serious is available to view throughout August 2026 in celebration of Women’s Month." 

For this exhibition, I present a body of work outside of my usual visual language. A looser mark giving into the instinct of recording a body that is comfortable under water, near naked, meaty, slippery, solid but moving. That body is mine. Unravelled, out of line. I’m comfortable with that body. And in this serious world, the one thing that I don’t want to take too seriously is my physicality.
